pear and almond tart recipe

Pear-and-almond-tart

We're setting sail today around the Hawkesbury River on Sydney Harbour and thought a simple Pear and Almond Tart would be a perfect accompaniment for morning coffee. If you're thinking of making a tart, this is recipe is for you! I've shown in the photo fresh pears but tinned pears are better. The trickiest part is the pastry (Pst...buy some Careme Vanilla Bean Sweet Shortcrust Pastry instead. It's sooo good if you're short on time). Don't forget to add a dollop of creme fraiche on a slice of tart to leave your taste buds in rapture. See recipe after the break

cities in illustration

Cities-in-Illustration
Cities-in-Illustrating

I seem to have an extreme curiosity for illustrations featuring cities of the world. Perhaps it's my way of travelling without leaving home. I admire illustrators that can create city maps in a simplistic and coherent perspective creating harmony from a maze of streets and buildings. I remember in my early career in Graphic Design when Sydney Rail was a client and I had the misfortune of simplifying train tracks into graphic representations. Yay me! Anyway, I love these illustrations and how they are as beautiful on fabric as in print

{go make me} sewn paper garland tutorial

Paper-garland

How-to-sew-a-paper-garlandI'm in a creative mood, so hey, why not have a go at making a paper garland? Too easy! I draped my garland over a Magnolia branch that has lost its magnificent blooms but I still love it's sculptural form
Do you love my new chair? It's originally from the 50's with a recent upholstery revamp. I purchased it from the Armchair Collective in Mona Vale, Sydney, a very cool cafe meets homewares
Here's how to make the garland
Cut 5cm circles out of card stock with a large hole punch (or cut out by hand). Using a sewing machine, sew through centre of the first circle. When through, simply continue sewing without anything under the machine foot. Continue for approximate 10cm and then sew on another circle. Repeat until you reach your desired garland length

Alternatively if you don’t have a sewing machine, simply glue a circle onto twine and back with another circle

Materials needed: Thin cardboard or heavy paper, sewing machine, hole punch

free magazines to read on a rainy day

Issuu-MagazinesIt's raining cats and dogs here today but I don't mind. In fact I love rain except when you're caught in it. Without the outside tempting me, I turned on my computer for a quick perusal of online magazines via Issuu. Well a quick perusal turned into several 'bottom getting wider' hours later and my head is spinning with reading so many fab mags for free. If it's raining where you are, you know what you can do....

out with the old, in with the new

At-home-on-the-verandah

We love Sydney. It's where I grew up and it always gives me a thrill when flying home to hover over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and the sparkling water before descending onto the tarmac

This month is a milestone for us as we we move into our new home that we've been building for the last two years (and many more grey hairs) and say goodbye to our rental apartment perched on top of Cremorne Point. It was so cool to hear the lions roar across the bay at Taronga Zoo or hear the ferry press its hull against the pier for the 8.00am morning rush

Building a new home has been all consuming and a bit quiet around here on Go Make Me but I have so many exciting projects in the pipeline that I would love to share. Stay tuned
