{go make me} sassy knitted beanies for fresh eggs / diy project
Fresh eggs (those seductive ovals of yumminess) are delicious when served in an egg cup with soldiers and kept toasty warm under a woollen beanie. Of course you can draw faces on the shell with an indelible marker but I don't believe it's that appetising after a lobotomy. It took me about 30 minutes to knit a beanie which included a trip to the kitchen to put on the dishwasher. See after the break for knitting instructions
The faces were inspired by a children's book '365 Animal Stories' published in 1968 (see below) featuring illustrators Porter G, Hilda Offen, Pradera, Esme Eve, Alan Jesset and Richard Hooke. It's one of my favourite books and the illustration styles are still current today
How to make an egg beanie/cosie
You will need
4mm needles
4 ply wool oddments
Sewing needle
Pattern
Please note that this pattern is for a small egg and wool weights will vary. If too small cast on 22 stitches instead of 20
Cast on 20 stitches
Rows 1 to 4: Ribbing, Knit 1, Pearl 1. Repeat
Rows 5 to 12: Knit one row, Pearl next row and repeat
Row 13: Knit 1, Knit 2 together and repeat, Knit 1, Knit 1 (14 stitches)
Row 14: Pearl
Row 15: Knit 1, Knit 2 together and repeat, Knit 1, Knit 1 (10 stitches)
Row 16: Pearl
Row 17: Knit
Row 18: Pearl
Row 19: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 2, Knit 2 together, Knit 2 (8 stitches)
Row 20: Pearl
Row 21: Knit
Row 22: Pearl
Row 23: Kint 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 1, Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 1 (6 stitches)
Row 24: Pearl 1, P 2 together, Pearl 1, Pearl 2 together (4 stitches)
Row 25: Knit 2 together, Knit 2 together
Row 26: Pearl 2 together. Trim off yarn and thread through open loop, pull to form a knot
Thread darning needle. With right sides together, sew seam. Create little tassles and bows at the ends. Add 'X' if desired
