jam donuts – can you eat one without licking your lips?
It's a well known universal fact that a sugared donut cannot be eaten without licking one's lips. These deep fried morsels are generously dusted in sugar and lips are coated from one single mouthful. With deftness, your tongue seems to grow a mind of its own and quickly darts across your mouth seeking any extraneous sweetness. Resistance is futile
Are you up for the challenge of eating a donut without licking your lips? Will you be outdone by a simple, unassuming donut? Will your lips remain dry albeit sugary or wet and sugarless? Well here's your chance...
I recently purchased Manu Feildel's French Bistro Cookbook and one of his of the recipes that spoke my language was Beignets a la Confiture de Framboise (aka Raspberry Jam Donuts). They are very easy to make only requiring some simple ingredients, time to prove the dough and a deep fryer. I added lemon curd instead of jam because the tartness was a great foil for the sugar
Delicious with strawberries and cream. I have to admit, I lost the challenge succumbing to sugarless lips but ultimately won the tasty prize!
